Born on July 6, 1980, in Niagara Falls, she was a daughter of Mark Krell and Cindi Telaro. She was raised by her foster mother Tammy Mattoon. In 2017, she met Thomas W. Shimmel and on October 20, 2018 they were married. Mr. Shimmel survives.

Shana was a graduate of Niagara Falls High School. She worked as a Life Coach for Allegany-Steuben ARC in Wellsville for several years.

With a huge heart, she loved everyone she ever met and dedicated her life to caring for those around her. Though she was known for her remarkable strength and toughness, she always held a deep soft spot for the people she held dear. Above all, she wanted her family to know how deeply and unconditionally she loved them, cherishing every moment spent with her children and grandchildren. At home, she found joy in the simple pleasures of life-whether she was working on crafts, fishing, camping, or spending time with her beloved dogs, Spartan and Chloe.

In addition to her husband, Thomas, she is survived by her children Steven McDowell, David Frotello, Alexia McDowell, and Amber McDowell all of Niagara Falls; her maternal Joann Eichler; her siblings Walter Garcia, Matt, Tiffany, and Candace Mattoon, and Janelle Ashley, all of Niagara Falls; several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her father.

Viewing will be on Sunday, November 1, 2026 at the United Church of Friendship, 31 E. Main Street, Friendship from 1-4:00 P.M. with a funeral service immediately following. Pastor Bill Beck will officiate.
