Richard D. "Rick" Childs, 71, of Bolivar, passed away Wednesday, July 15, 2026 at Strong Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Born on March 5, 1955, in Cuba, he was a son of Carl and Helen Paffie Childs. On August 31, 1991, in Bolivar, he married the former Tonia A. Perry who survives.
Rick was a graduate of Bolivar Central Schools Class of 1973. He then served in the United States Air Force. After his military service, he graduated from Alfred State College with a degree in Nursing.
He had worked for John Hopkins Hospital as an IV Therapist, Nicholas Noyes Hospital in Dansville, and then for InforMed Health Care as a case manager until his retirement.
Rick loved to golf, ride side-by-side, camping, music, singing, but most of all loved spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife Tonia, he is survived by his children Sara Childs of Eldersburg, Maryland, Mallory (Kyle) Vaughn of Bolivar, Macy (Zachary Adams) Childs of Richburg; 7 grandchildren; two brothers Steve Childs of Bolivar, Brian (Kelly) Childs of Hinsdale; two sisters Pamela (Brent) Howard of Richburg and Deena (Christopher) Holcomb of Portville; two additional loved children Henrique “Ricki” Oliveira of Brazil and Frankie Gould of Pittsburgh; and several nieces and nephews who he loved dearly.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter Camilla Childs whom died in infancy, three brothers Gary, Philip, and James Childs, and a sister-in-law Sissy Childs.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 19, 2026 at the Obi Community Church, 1960 Route 305, Cuba, New York 14727 from 2-3 P.M. with a Celebration of Life beginning at 3:00 P.M. Jeff Sherwood, Rick's nephew, will officiate.
In honor of Rick, donations may be made to the Hope Lodge, 1120 South Goodman Street, Rochester, NY 14620.
