Ida M. McPhee, 78, of Cuba, passed away on Saturday, October 3, 2026 at home after a brief illness.
Born on September 10, 1948, in Buffalo, she was a daughter of Jospeh J. and Victoria (Sinabaldi) Piccolo. On October 14, 1967, in Buffalo, she married Patrick N. "Scott" McPhee who predeceased her on May 26, 1997.
A graduate of Lafayette High School, Ida began her career at the age of 14 in the cafeteria at Millard Fillmore Gates Hospital, later transitioning to a receptionist role in the radiology department.
After relocating to Cuba with her husband, Ida's strong work ethic was evident in every position she held. She worked as an accountant for Rinker Oil, brought her warmth to the Peanut Gallery Daycare, and served as a deli master at Shur-fine. In 1986, she joined the practice of Dr. Simons as a dental assistant, where she remained until her retirement and was affectionately known as a beloved member of the "Tooth Fairy Gang."
For many years, she hosted a local bridge club and was an active member of both the Cuba Rotary and her local bowling league. Never one to sit still, she found endless joy at home continuously working on house projects, decorating thoughtfully for every holiday, repurposing unique treasures, and crocheting. Ida was also famous for her legendary homemade pizza sauce-a secret recipe cherished by many, but one she proudly kept close to her heart. She also loved traveling with her sisters and family on cruises most notably Italy, River Cruise of Europe, and she and her sisters where the highlight of the Batty for Bourbon bus tour. Locally she enjoyed her time at Cuba Lake.
Ida was a parishioner of Our Lady of Angels Church in Cuba.
She is survived by her children Shannen (David Kumpf) McPhee and Ian McPhee both of Cuba, and Ross (Angela) McPhee of Coatesville, Pennsylvania; her grandson Lucian of Cuba; her beloved partner Scott Barrey of Cuba; two sisters Geraldine Neff of North Tonawanda and Vickie Williams of Buffalo; several nieces and nephews; and her former daughter in law Alicia McPhee of Olean.
She was predeceased by her parents, husband, and a sister Patricia Obstarczyk.
Friends may call at the Mark F. Rinker Funeral Home & Memorial Service, Inc., 9 Bull Street, Cuba, on Thursday, October 8, 2026 from 1-5 P.M. at which time a short service will be held. A private reception will be held after the service.
Memorials may be made to the Boys and Girls Club or St. Jude's.
