Hazel Grace Deck

Hazel Grace Deck, 3, of Cuba, passed away Wednesday, April 1, 2026.

Born on December 30, 2022, in Rochester, she was a daughter of Alex L. and Leah J. (Pastorious) Deck.

Hazel Grace was a precious and perfect gift from God! An angelic light whose life reflected the beauty of heaven here on earth. Even at just three years old, she carried a spirit overflowing with joy, love, peace, and purity. Something that could only come from the Lord. As it is written, “Every good and perfect gift is from above” (James 1:17), and Hazel was truly one of those rare and radiant gifts even with this earthly disease.

She was deeply loved and cherished by her entire family! Giving Uncle Nick, Uncle Zach, Aunt Jilly, GG, and Grammy hugs and tender touches when they need it the most which she knew. She was considered as another daughter to the Causer family, like a sister to Ellie and Esme, and a constant source of joy to all who knew her. Everyone adored her, always wanting to be near her, to hug her, and to simply be in her presence. Hazel had the sweetest, most precious hugs. Unforgettable, comforting, and filled with a peace that touched the very core of your heart.

She walked in a gentle and tender spirit, embodying the very heart of Christ in a way that deeply touched everyone she encountered. Her simple touch, especially the way she would place her hand so softly on someone’s face. Bringing a peace that felt like the presence of God. Many truly believe she carried a healing anointing, knowing just where to go and who needed her love most. “The Lord bless you and keep you… and give you peace” (Numbers 6:24–26). Through Hazel, that peace was not just spoken it was felt and received.

Hazel shined with the light of Jesus in any room dark or just dim. “Let your light shine before others” (Matthew 5:16), and she did so effortlessly. Her presence illuminated every room, and her joy was pure, unfiltered, and contagious. She was silly, joyful, kind, and full of life a “little love bug” who gave love freely and abundantly. She created joyful memories filled with laughter, play, and even the simple, special moments. Such as, time spent together as a family that will forever be cherished.

She was a true worshiper! full of faith, innocence, and wholehearted, undignified praise. She loved to sing, her voice full of purity and gentleness. She would raise her hands in worship and prayer with such genuine faith, and as she twirled, danced, and worshiped Jesus. She revealed the beauty of childlike faith. “Let the little children come to me… for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these” (Matthew 19:14). Her worship was powerful, pure, and deeply moving! A true reflection of heaven and a reminder of how we are all called to love and honor God with every intention and action.

Hazel also carried a quiet strength and grace far beyond her years. She was remarkably strong; a strength beautifully reflected from her loving and devoted parents. Who cared for her so faithfully. Even through everything, she walked with courage and perseverance, reflecting the truth that “My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9). Her life inspired others to draw closer to Christ, to love more deeply, show grace that surpasses all understanding, and to cherish what truly matters.

She was a healer in the most beautiful and gentle way. Always, bringing comfort, peace, and restoration through her presence. “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds” (Psalm 147:3). Through her life, God used her to touch countless hearts, leaving a lasting and eternal impact through her own legacy!

Though her time here was brief, Hazel’s impact will continue to grow. There is a deep faith and belief that her life will not be in vain, but will bring purpose, transformation, and salvations to come! Her story is one that points to the truth that Jesus is our only hope and our firm foundation.

While she is deeply missed, we hold tightly to the promise of eternity and the hope of being reunited again in heaven. “He will wipe every tear from their eyes… there will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain” (Revelation 21:4). We trust in God’s perfect and sovereign will and plan. Knowing this is not goodbye but only a moment until we are together again.

Until that day, we will carry her legacy forward by walking in the fruits of the Spirit: “love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control” (Galatians 5:22–23), just as Hazel so beautifully lived. #belikehazel
