Glenn C. Cummins, 91, of 18 Factory Street, Friendship, passed away Sunday, August 01, 2010 at his son's home surrounded by family after a brief illness.
Born on July 24, 1919, in Cuba, New York he was one of fourteen children of the late Henry and Elizabeth Bernard Cummins. He was married to the former Helen S. Johnson who predeceased him. Mr. Cummins was also predeceased by a close friend Virginia Carpenter whom he enjoyed companionship with for many years after the loss of his wife.

Mr. Cummins served in the United States Army from April 21, 1942 until November 5, 1945. While enlisted he served in the Asiatic-Pacific and received the Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the American Defense Service medal. He was also proud to have served in the military, which remained an important part of his life.
After returning to the area he was employed by Acme Electric as a welder for 38 years retiring in 1982. After retiring he went to work for C&G oil company and helped on the oil leases for a few years. Glenn's worked ethic continued for many years while he was sexton of the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Friendship.
He enjoyed his time with family, gardening, traveling, cards, skipbo, and 3 finger shot drinks, as well as hunting and fishing. His many stories will be remembered by anyone who knew him.
Glenn was a lifetime member of the Friendship American Legion Post 1186.
Mr. Cummins is survived by one son, Robert "Bob" (Jaclyn) Cummins of Friendship; one daughter, Robin L. (Donald) Cole of
Friendship; his grandchildren, Jessica (Ryan) McKnight, Rob (Brandy) Cummins, Carina Hovey, Kristen Wood, Shawn (Ann Marie) McCarthy, and Kelley (Joe) Anderson;
11 great grandchildren; three brothers, Paul (Mary Lou) Cummins of Cuba, Raymond (Dorla) Cummins of Alabama, and Andrew "Mike" Cummins of Nile; a sister, Edith Harp of Friendship; and many nieces and nephews as well as a special friend Linda Snyder and family.
In addition to his wife and parents he was predeceased by a daughter Patricia J. McCarthy on Feb. 26, 2009, seven brothers, Herman, Arthur, Lawrence, Lavern, Pete, James, and Alfred Cummins, and two sisters, Anna Ward and Helen Bernard.
The family will receive friends at the Mark F. Rinker Funeral Home & Memorial Service, Inc., 9 Bull Street, Cuba on Wednesday, August 4, 2010 from 2-4 & 7-9 P.M. where funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 5, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. The Rev. Vernon Dean, retired pastor of Faith Baptist Church, will officiate.
Burial with full military honor's, accorded by members of the Friendship American Legion Post 1168, will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Friendship.
Memorials if desired may be made to the Friendship American Legion Post 1168.
