Gardenia A. “Polly” Greene, 87, of 23 Champlain Ave., Cuba, passed away Friday, February 13, 2026 at Jones Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
Born on July 13, 1938, in Bradford, Pennsylvania, she was a daughter of Earl R. and Viola M. (Lovell) Wixon. On April 3, 1965, she married Clyde O. Greene who predeceased her.
Polly attended Bradford High School until 11th grade and was a graduate of Otto Eldred High School.
After high school she worked in a box factory until she met her husband and moved to Cuba. For many years she was a babysitter in her home and later went to school to be a nurse’s aide for the elderly in their homes. She was last employed by Accord working for the afterschool program in Rushford until her retirement in 2003.
When her children were young, she was a Den Mother for the Boy Scout and spent time volunteering at the Allegany County Fair for the Office of the Aging. She enjoyed crafts, gardening, and sewing. She bowled on the Cuba VFW Post 2721 league traveling to numerous tournaments.
Polly was a member of the Cuba VFW Post 2721 Auxiliary, AmVets Post 1 Auxiliary, Cuba American Legion Post 655 Auxiliary, the Olean Elks Lodge 491, and the Olean Moose Lodge 119.
She is survived by her children; Lori (Doug) Jewell of Iowa, Sue (Craig) Barry of Washington State, Roger “RJ” Greene of Cuba, and Alan (Robin) Greene of Texas; 9 Grandchildren; 10 great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a son David Greene and three brothers Dick, Donny, and Pete Wixon.
Friends may call at the Mark F. Rinker Funeral Home & Memorial Service, Inc, 9 Bull Street, Cuba, on Wednesday, February 18, 2026 from 10:00 A.M. Until Noon.
Burial will be in East Sharon Cemetery, Shinglehouse, Pennsylvania.
