BOLIVAR
Burton L. Yates Sr, 86, passed away after a long battle with cancer on Monday (May 4, 2026) at Olean General Hospital.
He was born July 9, 1939 in Olean, NY, the son of the late Sydney and Beatrice (Sherman) Yates.
He graduated from Richburg Central School.
After spending many years working at Hysol and the Olean Times Herald, Burton retired from Bolivar Richburg Central School bus garage. He then spent his time as a dedicated volunteer working at the Solid Rock Community Center. He was also an active member of Faith Bible Church where he enjoyed serving coffee on Sunday mornings. Baking for his family and friends was one of Burt's favorite things to do - often spending hours each day making baked goods.
Burton is survived by his 5 loving children - Darla (Barry) Rockefeller, Barb (Don) Rockefeller, Tammy (Joe) Blauvelt, Alan (Lara) Yates, and David (Jaime) Gleason - who lovingly cared for him during his last days.
Burton is also survived by a daughter-in-law Cindy Yates, 22 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and was looking forward to the arrival of 3 more great-grandchildren this year.
He showed his love and support for them all by attending as many sporting activities and important life events as possible.
Burton was predeceased by his devoted wife of 37 years, Nancy (Barber) Yates, as well as two sons, Burton Lee Yates Jr. and Terrance Yates.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 pm Saturday, May 9, 2026 at Faith Bible Church, 8137 Rt. 417, Little Genesee, NY, after which time a memorial service will be held. Pastor David Herne will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Heritage Aflame Ministries, Faith Bible Church, or Home Care & Hospice of Allegany County.
