William James Francis
Beloved Father
William James Francis, 89, of 4793 Prospect Street, Cuba passed away Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at Cuba Memorial Hospitals Palliative Care Program after a lengthy illness.

Born on March 21, 1925, in Staten Island, New York he was a son of William J. and Bernetta F. Johnson Francis. In 1964 he married Beatrice Abel who predeceased him in 1964. On August 11, 1971 he married the former Elizabeth "Betty" Francis who predeceased him.

Bill was a graduate of John Adams High School in Queens New York graduating 1942. He began working for Merritt Chapman Scott Corp. in Staten Island NY which was a marine salvage business. He began working as a Seamen's Proper until he was involved in a marine salvage accident in which he lost his leg. After that he was a Diver's Tender, taking care of all the diving equipment. He retired after 20 years.

He was a 50 plus year member of Cuba First Baptist Church, a member of Dade Lodge #14 F&AM where he received his third degree on December 8, 1948, the Cuba-Friendship Masonic Lodge #306 F&AM where he was past master and received the dedicated service award on February 1, 1988, and McKee Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star # 212 where he also received a Service Certificate of February 1, 1988.

He enjoyed playing poker in the Thursday afternoon league and the Monday night league at the Cuba Fire Department. He also enjoyed traveling the United States and Canada with his wife Betty in their Motor home.

Surviving are a son, Hal Francis of Cuba; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wives he was predeceased by a sister Marion P. Francis.

Friends will be received at the First Baptist Church of Cuba on Saturday, January 17, 2015 from 1-2:00 P.M. at which time a Memorial Service will be held. The Rev. Larry A. Poelma will officiate. Members of Cuba Friendship Lodge #306 F&AM and McKee Chapter #212 O.E.S. will conduct their funeral services beginning at 2:00P.M.

Burial will be in Cuba Cemetery, Cuba, New York.
