For five years he kept the clock for the basketball games at Cuba. He also was a coach of a Little League team for five years. In the fall of 1942 he signed a contract with the Chicago Cuba Baseball organization to play with one of their farm teams.

He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Cuba and was also a member of the Cuba Fire Department until it interfered with his position on the railroad. He belonged to the Rockton Masonic Lodge 316 F&AM in Kent, Ohio for 70 years.
