Ruth Friel Doyle

Ruth Friel Doyle, of Cuba, NY, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 4, 2022. Ruth was born on November 14, 1936, in Black Creek, NY, to Almira Halsey Friel and Anthony Friel.

After graduating from Cuba Central School in 1954, Ruth attended Mercyhurst College in Erie, PA, where she graduated in 1958 with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and mathematics.

In June 1961, Ruth married John E. Doyle, who was her best friend and love of her life.

Ruth and her family lived in the Rochester area from 1960 to 1973. She was employed at the University of Rochester as an eye research technician and then started and ran an income tax preparation business for eight years.

Ruth moved back to Cuba with her family in 1973. She and her husband, John, started their business, Sterilator Co. Inc., which they operated from their home until 1999.

Over the years, Ruth demonstrated her love for Cuba by serving on the Cuba Community Development Board, Cuba Village Board, and the tree board for the Village of Cuba. She was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church. She also served as a member and then president of Cuba Central School Board.

Some of Ruth’s greatest pleasures in life were playing cards with friends and family, spending time outdoors, and deer hunting. She also loved going on daily walks around Cuba with her friends. Ruth enjoyed traveling; visiting many countries and beautiful areas of the US. She always looked forward to her winter months in Panama City Beach with her friends and the activities at Summerhouse.

Ruth lived her life for her family. She cherished every moment she spent with her children, her grandchildren, and her great grandchildren. She is survived by her sons, Shawn (Marlene) Doyle and Timothy (Jennifer) Doyle; her daughter, Denise Goodman; her brother, Thomas Friel; ten grandchildren, Emily (Corey) Zutz, Anastasia Doyle, John T. Doyle, Bruce (Cadi) Doyle, Alexander Doyle, Joshuah (Milena) Doyle, Maureen Goodman, Kyle Goodman, Owen Bentley, and Evan Bentley; her three great grandchildren, Delilah Fox, Charles Zutz, and Eliza Zutz; several nieces and nephews; and close family friends Terry Godfrey, Isis Vagostelo and Luiz Carlos de Araujo. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, John, in 2019 and her precious daughter, Julianne Doyle Bentley, in 2013.

Ruth’s family will cherish the memory of her warm and loving spirit.

Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday (August 11, 2022) at the Mark F. Rinker Funeral Home & Memorial Service, Inc., 9 Bull Street, Cuba, NY. A prayer service will be held at 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday (August 12, 2022) at Our Lady of the Angels Church, 50 South Street, Cuba. Fr.. Dan Riley, OFM, will be the celebrant. Interment will follow at Our of the Angels Cemetery.

The family suggests memorial donations, in lieu of flowers, be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. Or, to celebrate Ruth’s great love for the outdoors, you may consider planting a tree in her memory.
