Richard C. “Dick” Hall

Grandfather, Great Grandfather

Richard C. "Dick" Hall, 84, of 14 Woodruff Street, Cuba, passed away Monday, October 24, 2016 at home after a brief battle with cancer.

Born on April 2, 1932, in Cuba, he was a son of Clair W. and Leah M. VanGilder Hall. On September 10, 1955, in Cuba he married his wife of 61 years the former Doris E. Robinson who survives.

Dick was a graduate of Cuba Central School Class of 1951. While in high school he worked for Moses Grocery Store and then for a little over a year he worked for Acme Electric.

On October 21, 1952 he was drafted in the United States Army and served until September 29, 1954. He received the National Defense Service medal for his service.

Returning to Cuba, Dick when to work for Guilord Dairies and then he was a part time dispatcher and police officer under Bob Flowers. He also worked for the Village of Cuba's Streets, Bill Enos' gas station, and eventually went to work at the Western Auto Hardware for Dick Burt. In 1972, he and his wife purchased the Western Auto Hardware and it became Halls Ace Hardware until their retirement in 1998.

In the 1980's and early 90's he was the Cuba Town Clerk and had been Cuba Registrar for 25 years.

Dick enjoyed woodworking in his shop building clocks and small furniture, as well as, tending to his flower beds, gardening, and taking care of his home.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Rick (Annette) Hall of Cuba; a daughter, Susan (Thomas) Campbell of Cuba; four grandchildren, Michael (Teresa) Campbell, Steven (Christina) Campbell, Casey (Josh) Fieno, and CJ (Richele Priset) Hall; twelve great grandchildren; a bother-in-law, James (Paula) Robinson of Cuba; two nieces, Renee (Kris) Vurraro and Cheryl (Kevin) Donovan both of Bergen; three great nieces and one great nephew.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a sister Helen Clayson.

Friends will be received by the family at the Mark F. Rinker Funeral Home & Memorial Service, Inc., 9 Bull Street, Cuba on October 26, 2016 from 2-4 & 7-9 P.M. and on October 27, 2016 from 10-11 A.M. at which time funeral services will be held. The Rev. Jonathan D. Ward, pastor of North Park Wesleyan Church, will officiate.

Burial will be in Cuba Cemetery, Cuba, New York. In lieu of flowers Memorial's may be made to the Veteran's Living Memorial Project, c/o Cuba Chamber of Commerce, 5 West Main Street, Cuba, New York 14727.
