Philip J. Austin
Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather
Philip J. Austin, 58, of 4788 Prospect Street, Cuba passed away Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at Hospice of Buffalo after a short illness.

Born on September 20, 1957, in Cuba, he was a son of Harold and Marjorie Sheehan Austin. On November 6, 1982 at Our Lady of Angels Church he married the former Brenda S. Lee who survives.

Phil was a graduate of Cuba Central School Class of 1976. After graduation he served in the Untied States Navy from 1976-1980. When he returned to Cuba, he began working at the Cuba Cheese Shoppe and later went to work in the warehouse at Cuba Cheese where he was currently employed prior to becoming ill.

He was a member of the Cuba Garlic Festival Committee and was very devoted to the parking committee. He also volunteered for other organizations when he was asked.

Family and spending time with them on family vacations, at Rockville Lake, and going to micro breweries was cherished time that was extremely important to him. He loved being with his granddaughter who affectionately called him "G", she was his pride and joy. "Wednesday Night" at Dave Rodkey's cabin with Mike Miller trumped all other plans.

Phil's profound love for Mother Nature was evident in all that he did. He loved hiking in the woods, hiking the Genesee Greenway trail especially around Rockville Lake, and tracking animals in winter to see where they lived.

Surviving in addition to his wife Brenda are his parents, Harold and Marjorie Austin of Cuba; a son, Chad Austin of Buffalo; a daughter, Cassie Austin of Lancaster; a granddaughter, Carly VanDerlinde of Lancaster; three sisters, Kathleen (Claude) Brown of Carol Stream, IL, Sue Culbert of Cuba, and Jill (Thomas) Kriz of Venetia, PA; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the Mark F. Rinker Funeral Home & Memorial Service, Inc., 9 Bull Street, Cuba, on Sunday, September 4, 2016 from 1-5 P.M. where funeral services will be held on Monday, September 5, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. Jim Keough, a close personal family friend, will officiate.

Memorial suggestions include the Genesee Greenway Trail, c/o Michael Doyle, 83 West Main Street, Cuba, New York 14727 or to the Cuba Garlic Festival, 5 West Main Street, Cuba, New York 14727.
