Penelope F. “Penny” McGinnis

Penelope F. “Penny” McGinnis 76, of 27 Maple Street, Cuba, passed away on Sunday, April 17, 2022 shortly after arrival at Olean General Hospital.

Born on November 18, 1945, in Queens, she was a daughter of John J. and Florence G. Jones Comellas. On July 13, 1991, in Richmond Hills, she married Thomas G. McGinnis who preceded her in death on December 28, 2015.

Penny had been employed as a Spanish Teacher for Adrien Block Intermediate School in Flushing, New York prior to her retirement. She had also worked as a customs agent for the airports in NYC. After the passing of her husband, she relocated to Cuba to be closer to family.

She was an avid supporter of the ASPCA, and especially loved the cats she raised and rescued over the years. She also enjoyed gardening, her many flower beds, and traveling to foreign countries with her husband. She always reminisced about meeting her husband on a tour of Ireland.

She is survived by a sister, Barbara (Vincent) Palazzo of Lake George, New York; 2 brothers in law, David (Kenneth Lamore) McGinnis of St. Petersburg, FL and Michael (Kathleen Lull) McGinnis of Weedsport; 2 sisters in law, Kathy (Jim) Ayers of Cuba and Clara McGinnis of Cuba; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband she was predeceased by 2 brothers in law, Mark McGinnis and Dale P. McGinnis.

The family will receive friends at the Mark F. Rinker Funeral Home & Memorial Service, Inc., 9 Bull Street, Cuba on Friday, April 22, 2022 from 10-11:00 A.M. Burial and Committal Services will follow at 11:15 A.M. in Black Creek Cemetery, Town of New Hudson, New York.

Memorial suggestions include the SPCA serving Allegany County or to the Cuba Ambulance Squad.
