Neva L. Gross, 96, formerly of 8552 Rte. 305 Black Creek, passed away Monday, September 28, 2015 at Highland Healthcare Center, Wellsville, after a lengthy illness.

Born on November 24, 1918, in New Hudson, she was a daughter of Leon Elton and Cecil Mae Cole Rork. On November 19, 1954, in Cuba she married Edward Gross who predeceased her in May of 2006 after being married for over 50 years.

Neva attended the Black Creek School until eighth grade and then went to Cuba High School graduating at the age of 14. She then went to West Brook Academy in Olean where she took business courses.

She began working at Acme Electric first working on the line and the in the offices. After that she went to work for the Black Creek Store and Post Office and enjoyed her job there the most.

Neva was a member of the Bellville Wesleyan Church. She was the Town of New Hudson historian for 28 years, but decided to retire from that at age 84. Gaining all the historical knowledge she was able to write a book entitled "Early Settlement & History of the Town of New Hudson".

In her earlier years she enjoyed sewing, crocheting Afghans, and making quilts. She always like to read and especially enjoyed researching her family genealogy.

Surviving are a son, Rodney Rork of Black Creek; a daughter, Janet (Alan) Carlin of Wellsville; a daughter-in-law, Marilyn Wise-Comstock of Candler, North Carolina; five grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Elva V. Gross of Wellsville; her country cousins, Hazen Everetts, Frances Greener, and Gerry Witter; several nieces and nephews; and a life long friend, Dick Botens of Black Creek.

In addition to her parents and husband she was predeceased by a son, Dale Comstock; a sister, Irene Smith; a brother who died at birth; and a sister-in-law, Hazel Lyman.

Friends will be received at the Mark F. Rinker Funeral Home & Memorial Service, Inc., 9 Bull Street, Cuba, on Friday, October 2, 2015 from 10-11 A.M. at which time funeral services will be held. The Rev. Roy DeVries, pastor of the Bellville Wesleyan Church will officiate.

Burial will be in Black Creek Cemetery, Town of New Hudson.
