Loving Husband, Father, Grandfather
Mark B. Thompson, 66, of 5310 Maple Lane, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, November 28, 2021 shortly after arrival at Olean General Hospital.

Born on April 1, 1955, in Cuba, he was one of thirteen children born to Donald R. and Katherine Kingsley Thompson. On December 23, 2016, he married Janet L. Botens making official the 25 years they had spent together.

Mark was graduate of Belfast Central Schools Class of 1973. He then served in the United States Army from during the Vietnam Era. After his military service he became a New York State Corrections Officer. In 1985, he was assigned to Sing Sing Correctional facility for one year and was then transferred to Attica where he worked until his retirement in 2017.

He was a member of the Cuba VFW Post 2721 Auxiliary and a life member of Cuba American Legion Post 655. He had been a member of the Oramel Volunteer Fire Department, serving as chief for several years.

Mark enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling to horse shows with his wife, and watching NASCAR, with his favorite driver being Jeff Gordon.

In addition to his wife Janet, he is survived by three daughters, Jessica (Justin) Cook of Medina, Ashley (Dale Thomas) Thompson of Belfast and Amy Deeb of Cuba; his grandchildren, Molly, Mason, Anna, and Nora Cook, Aidyn Robbins, and Cage Reesman; two brothers, Lynn (Linda) Thompson, and Ronald (Barbara) Thompson; three sisters, Margaret Thompson, Laureen Young, and Susan (John) Wilson all of Belfast; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three brothers Donald, Roger, and Roland, and four sisters Delores Jefferies, Patricia Baker, Janice Thompson, and Monica Penz.

A Celebration of Mark’s life will be held at a later date, place and time to be announced.
