Born on August 18, 1944, in Clifton Springs, he was a son of Joseph Sr. and Hertha Patterer, and a brother to William Patterer. On June 28, 1975 he married the former Marilee Liederbach who survives.

Joe was a graduate of Waterloo High School in 1962 and then graduated from Cornell University in 1966 with his Bachelor’s Degree. He then served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from 1970-73 and was very proud of his service.

Joe taught at Elmira BOCES and Flint BOCES before joining the New York State Department of Transportation where he was a diesel mechanic retiring in 2001.

He was able to repair just about anything and enjoyed his retirement tinkering and fixing things. Traveling, camping, and kayaking were just a few things he loved doing with his family. He was a member of the Maplehurst Baptist Church and read his Bible daily and loved the Lord.

In addition to his wife, Marilee, he is survived by a son, Richard (fiancé Melissa Snopkowski) Patterer of Cuba; 2 daughters, Jennifer (Randy) Larrabee of Ischua and Sarah Patterer of Delevan; and his grandchildren Allison, Adam, Arianna, Ben and Lilly.

He was predeceased by his parents.

Friends will be received at the Mark F. Rinker Funeral Home & Memorial Service, Inc., 9 Bull Street Cuba, on Saturday, June 4, 2022 from 10-11 A.M. at which time a Funeral Service will be held. The Rev. Terry Jenks will officiate.

Burial will be in Algar Cemetery, Hume, New York.
