Born on March 8, 1952, in Cuba, he was a son of Harry and Wilma Mitchell Carney. On November 7, 1970, in Friendship, he married the former Kathy E. Kline who survives. In 1980, they renewed their wedding vows at Sacred Heart Church in Friendship.

After he was married, he worked for Cuba Cheese for a few years, but in 1977 went to work for the Scissor Plant (Klein Cutlery) in Bolivar and retired as plant manager in 2013.

John liked to hunt, fish, snowmobile, camp, and ride side-by-side. He always enjoyed spending time with his family at the camp that he and his children built, the many “Happy Hours” at camp and in the garage, and time with his friends. He cherished his grandchildren and was extremely proud of all their accomplishments.

In addition to his wife, Kathy, he is survived by his children, Jason Carney, Joseph (Kristina) Carney, and Heather (Shawn) Bedow all of Friendship; two grandchildren, Alexis (Austin) Keppler and Bryce Bedow; 2 brothers Dan (Ellen) Carney of Friendship and David (Pat) Carney of Bolivar; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his stepmother, Ruth Carney; a sister Sandra Teller; and a special cousin Dale Teller.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers memorial may be made to the Arthritis Foundation or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
