John Owen Culbert, Jr.
Beloved Father, Grandfather, and Son
John O. Culbert, Jr. of 19 Stevens Avenue, Cuba, NY passed away at his home June 3, 2014 surrounded by his family after a brave battle with cancer.

Born on May 14, 1956 in South Buffalo’s Mercy Hospital, he was the son of John Owen and Rose Mullin Culbert. On May 21, 1983, at Our Lady of Angels Church in Cuba, he married the former Sue E. Austin, who survives.

John was a graduate of Bishop Timon High School and Canisius College, both in Buffalo. He was employed at Acme Electric Corp., which later became Tracewell Electronics in Cuba. When this facility closed, he worked for Dresser-Rand, at its Olean location, later transferring to the Wellsville location.

John had a love for the Buffalo Bills, NY Yankees and Notre Dame football. He was a member of the Cuba Men’s Golf League and been active in Cuba Little League and Girls’ Softball when his children played. John was the co-chairman of the first and last Acme Electric Purchasing Group Golf Tournament. He also was a member of Our Lady of Angels Parish in Cuba. He enjoyed golfing and skiing at Holiday Valley and in Colorado.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Sue and mother, Rose of Orchard Park, NY are his three children, John Owen III of Breckenridge, CO, Bridget of Orchard Park, NY and Colleen (Jeremy) Ireland of McKean, PA. He is the proud “Boppa” of Liam Owen Ireland of McKean, PA. Also surviving John are his sisters, Kathleen (Richard) Doering of West Seneca, Julia (Mark) Andrzejczak and Teresa (Jeffrey) Reynolds of East Aurora. John is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, aunts and cousins. He is the son-in-law of Marge and Harold Austin of Cuba.

He was predeceased by his father, John Owen (Jack) Culbert.

The Family will receive friends at the Mark F. Rinker Funeral Home & Memorial Service, Inc., 9 Bull Street, Cuba, on Friday, June 6, 2014 from 3-8 P.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Angels Church, 50 South Street, Cuba, on Saturday, June 7, 2014 at 10:30 A.M. The Rev. Dennis Mancuso will be the celebrant.

The Rosary will be recited at 8:00 P.M. Friday night.

Burial will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Cuba.

Memorial contributions may be made in John’s memory to the Cuba Library, Cuba Historical Society or Cuba Friends of Architecture.
