Jeffrey L. Hewitt, 52, of 1212 Flanigan Hill Rd, Hinsdale, NY passed away unexpectedly Saturday, March 03, 2012 at home.

Born on January 2, 1960, in Cuba, New York he was a son of the late Buddy Laverne Hewitt and Doreen Elizabeth (Scott) Vedder who survives.

Jeff resided most of his life in the Hinsdale and Cuba area. He grew up in Cuba and was graduate of the former Cuba Central School Class of 1978 where he played baseball, basketball, and was an outstanding football player, playing on the Big 30 All Star Team in 1978.

He graduated from Alfred State College and attended Buffalo State College. For 24 years Jeff was employed by the New York State Department of Corrections working at the Groveland Correction Facility in Sonyea.

He was a member of the New York State Correctional Officers & Police Benevolent Association Union. He also served three terms on the Hinsdale School Board.

Jeff enjoyed life. He loved spending time with his children and coaching their sports. He like to watch football and hockey. He also enjoyed hunting.

Surviving are his Mother Doreen (Scott) Vedder of Sottsdale, Arizona; his daughter Ayren Hewitt at home; his son Nolan Hewitt at home; beloved mother of his children Christine Hewitt of Cuba; a brother Timothy C. (Julie) Hewitt of Kennedy; sisters, Marsha Hewitt Custer of Dover Delaware, and Marjeanne (Paul) Lande of Camden Delaware; nieces, Monica (Erica) Lucas, Jessica (Jeramine) Hodges, and Elizabeth (Ryan) Tipton; nephews, Cody and Michael Custer, and Robert Hewitt; his loving companion, Denise Shearing of Hinsdale; several great nieces and nephews; aunts, Marge (Joseph) Anderson, and Caren Scott; and an uncle Wendell (Roxie) Hewitt.

Friends will be received at the Mark F. Rinker Funeral Home & Memorial Service, Inc., 9 Bull Street, Cuba on Friday, March 9, 2012 from 7-9 P.M. and on Saturday, March 10, 2012 from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. at which time a Celebration of Life Service will be held. The Rev. Robert Mackmer will officiate.

Burial will be in West Genesee Cemetery, Town of Obi, New York.
