Jean Peace Switalski
Beloved Mother of Five and Grandmother
Jean Peace Switalski, 84, of 25 Mill Street, Cuba, passed away Tuesday, July 01, 2014 at Olean General Hospital after a lengthy illness.

Born on August 4, 1929, in Olean, she was a daughter of Herbert and Agnes Dougherty Peace. On April 12, 1958, she married James E. Switalski who predeceased her.

Jean was a graduate of Olean High School. From there she worked for Brown's Boot Shop in Olean, the Olean Times Herald in the Classifieds Department, and Clark Bros. In Olean where she was an honorary member of the retired Steelworkers Local 1601.

Jean received her nursing degree from Bradford School of Nursing, in Bradford Pa in 1955 and then went to work as a nurse for Dr. Doucetts office in the Olean Medical Group. She was an active nurse for next 42 years, and 30 of those years were spent at Cuba Memorial Hospital prior to her retirement. Even in retirement she graciously continued caring for the elderly in the community when she was needed.

She held the offices or President, Vice President, Secretary and Program Chairman for the past 20 years in the Allegany County Nurses Association. Active in the Community, Jean, was a member of Our Lady of Angels Church in Cuba where she was a Eucharistic Minister, member of the Church Council, a member of the Church Planning and Building Committee and also held many offices in the Altar Society. She had been Co-Chairman and registered nurse of the local Red Cross Blood Bank for 15 years. She also performed in the Cuba Library dinner Theatre and for ten years was a member of the Cuba Musical Theatre where she was best known for her first role as Poopsie in "Pajama Game".

Surviving are three sons, John (Crystal) Switalski of Port Matilda, PA, Paul Switalski of Cuba, and Peter (Carolee) Switalski of Gibsonia, PA; two daughters, Ann (Barry) Miller of Colton, Oregon, and Mary (John) Meres of Lakeridge, VA; her grandchildren Martin, Olivia, Kayla, Janus, Jamie, Michael, Emily, Sarah, Miranda, John, Chris, Matthew, and Ryan; a brother, Rusty (Cathy) Peace of Portville; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and sister-in-laws around the Olean area.

In addition to her parents and husband she was predeceased by her brothers Herbert, Hubert, George, Bob, and Jim.

The family will receive friends at the Mark F. Rinker Funeral Home & Memorial Service, Inc., 9 Bull Street, Cuba, on Monday, July 7, 2014 from 5-8 P.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at Our Lady of Angels Church, 50 South Street, Cuba at 11 A.M. The Rev. Msgr Vincent Becker will be the celebrant.

Burial will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Cuba.

Memorials if desired may be made to a charity of the donors choice.
