Jean E. Wilson

Jean E. Wilson of 7533 Tucker Hill Road, Houghton, passed away Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at home. Born on January 1, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Lawrence and Leah Wolfer Thomas. On March 27, 1949 in the Fillmore Methodist Church, she married Richard J. Wilson, who predeceased her.

Jean was a member of the Dee Victor Thomas American Legion Post 1156 Auxiliary. She had a keen interest in local and national politics and had served for many years on the Allegany County Republican Committee. She also was a longtime volunteer for the American Cancer Society. In recognition of her many contributions to her community and of her high personal standards, she had been honored as a Paul Harris Fellow by the Fillmore Rotary Club.

Surviving are three sons, Larry R. Wilson of Houghton, Stephen (Marci) Wilson of Jackson, Missouri, and Jay (Roseanna) Wilson of Belfast; a grandson, Travis J. (Christy) Wilson of Jackson, Missouri; a grandaughter-in-law, Kelli Wilson of Jackson, Missouri; two great grandchildren, Lauren and Zachary Wilson, of Jackson, Missouri; a brother, William (Jane) Thomas of Lansing, Michigan; a sister, Pat Ricketts, of Hume; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a grandson, Michael Wilson; two brothers, Robert L. Thomas and John L. “Dude” Thomas; and three sisters, Zelda Jane Thomas, Sally Wilday, and Janice “Jan” Hatch.

There will be no visitation. Graveside services will be held on Friday, July 31 at 11:00 a.m. In Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Houghton.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
