Janice Gene Bump Case
Loving Mother, Grandmother, Friend
Janice Gene Bump Case, 93, formerly of Bristol Street, Cuba, passed away Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at Cuba Memorial Hospitals Palliative Care Unit after a short illness.

Born on July 30, 1928, in Lakeview, New York, she was a daughter of George and Pearl Gayford Gleason and when she was born, she weighed just four pounds and 3 ounces. Sadly, her mother passed away just eight days after her birth.

Growing up Janice, or Gene, as she has been known for many years, lived in the Fillmore area where she attended a three-room schoolhouse until seventh grade and then attended Fillmore Central School graduating at age 16 on June 25, 1945.

That next summer she worked at Acme Electric Corp. of Cuba where she met her future husband Sidney Bump, and continued to work at Acme until she was 21 years old. She married Sidney Bump on September 1, 1946 and soon thereafter moved to 11 Bristol Street in Cuba, Sidney passed in 1994.

In 1974, she began working in the cafeteria at Cuba Central School, this was where she became affectionally known as the “Lunch Lady” to hundreds of children throughout the years until her retirement in 1990. During the 60’s and 70’s she baked dozens of wedding and special occasion cakes.

In 2001 she met Burton Case and in 2007 the couple were married. Burton passed away shortly after their marriage.

Gene was a 75-year member of Cuba First Baptist Church and a former member of the Mother’s Club. She was a breast cancer survivor and will be remembered for her loving, nurturing, and smile she gave to everyone she met.

She is survived by her son, Terry Bump of Bremerton, Washington; a grandson, Brandon (Jaime) Bump; great grandchildren, Mikayla and Marissa; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husbands, she was predeceased by a son Llewellyn Bump in 2013, and her siblings Harland Gleason, Virginia Burgers, Phyllis Denning, and Crystal Radoff.

Friends will be received at the Mark F. Rinker Funeral Home & Memorial Service, Inc., Cuba on Saturday, December 11, 2021 from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. at which time funeral services will be held. Claudia Little, will officiate.

Burial will be in Cuba Cemetery, Cuba, New York.
