James F. Schneider Devoted Family Man

James F. Schneider, 68, of 13 East Water Street, Friendship, New York, passed away Monday, January 03, 2011 at home after a lengthy illness.
Born on November 18, 1942, in Cuba, New York, he was a son of Carl H. and Lillian L. Glover Schneider. On November 23, 1983, in St. Andrews Episcopal Church, Friendship, New York he married the former Marian H. Wallace who survives.

Mr. Schneider served in the United States Army where he was a member of the All Army Baseball Team. While enlisted in played baseball and basketball in Europe and Orleans France.
He co-owned and operated Schneider's Hardware with his wife Marian for 35 years and was a rural mail carrier for the United States Post Office in Friendship from 1981 until 2006 at which time he retired due to illness.
Having always been active in the community he was a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church of Friendship, the Friendship American Legion Post 1168, a Past President of the Friendship Little League, Co Founder of the Friendship Youth Baseball Golf Tournament, and a founding father of the Ponderosa Hunting Club on East Hill Road.
Jim was a talented carpenter, who tackled many remodeling jobs in his home; he enjoyed camping, hunting, boating, and fishing, and actively supporting the youth in the Friendship area. His favorite pastime was being a grandfather who rarely missed his grandchildren's sporting events and all around loving family man.
Surviving in addition to his wife The Rev. Marian Schneider of Friendship is a son, James F. (Lisa) Schneider II of Belmont;
a daughter, Tami (Kevin) Demick of Angelica; a stepson, Jason (Maggie) Stork of Friendship; a stepdaughter, Candice K. (William) Townsend of North Carolina;
11 Grandchildren; two brothers, Carl E. Schneider of Friendship, and Vern G. (Diane) Schneider of Hilton, NY; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents.
The family will receive friends at the Mark F. Rinker Funeral Home & Memorial Service, Inc., 9 Bull Street, Cuba on Thursday, Jan. 6, 2011 from 2-4 & 7-9 P.M. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, Jan. 7, 2011 at 11:00 in the United Church of Friendship, 31 East Main Street, Friendship, NY 14739. The Rev. Douglas Carroll, retired pastor of the Allegany County Episcopal Ministries will officiate. Military Honors will be accorded by members of Friendship American Legion Post 1168.
Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Friendship.
