Helen L. Burt, 95, of 8538 Route 305 Black Creek, passed away, Sunday, July 14, 2019 at Cuba Memorial Hospital’s Palliative Care Unit with her daughter by her side after a short illness.
Born on October 23, 1923, in Black Creek, she was a daughter of Henry and Ella Wildrick Van Fleet. On June 4, 1947, in Black Creek she married Harold Burt who predeceased her.

Helen was a lifelong member of the Black Creek community and was proud to have resided in the home her grandfather built most her life.
She had worked for a number of years as a secretary for Phelps and Sibly Co., in Cuba, and later for Schryver’s Market as a cashier prior to her retirement. She was also the New Hudson Tax Collector for 20 years.
Helen was a member of Cuba Grange 799, The Black Creek Cemetery Association, was a 4-H leader and a member of the Friendship Swingers Square Dance Club.
She enjoyed knitting, playing the piano, playing the organ for the Black Creek Baptist Church, square dancing, but most of all spending time with her family and grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Thomas (Kathy) Burt of Cuba, Larry Burt of Black Creek, Dick (Diane) Burt of Cuba and Janet Burt of Black Creek; her grandchildren, Ian (Amanda), Adam (Sara), Jason (Jennifer), and Nick (Amanda); her great grandchildren, Olivia, Owen, Wells, Henry, Brady, and Dalton;
her loving sister, Anna Green of Cuba, and her beloved cat Callie, as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband she was predeceased by a brother George Van Fleet, and two sisters Mary Swisher and Ruth Miller.
The family will receive friends at the Mark F. Rinker Funeral Home & Memorial Service, Inc., 9 Bull Street, Cuba on Thursday, July 18, 2019 from 5-8 P.M. and on Friday, July 19, 2019 from 10-11:00 A.M. at which time funeral services will be held. The Rev. John Asquith, will officiate.
Burial will be in Black Creek Cemetery, Town of New Hudson, New York.
