Glenda A. Hitchcock
Beloved Wife, Mother, And Grandmother
Glenda A. Hitchcock, 77 of 8740 Stout Rd, Cuba, passed away Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at home after a battle with cancer.

Born on January 30, 1937, in Olean New York she was a daughter of Glenn and Charlotte Slaughter Estes. On October 17, 1958, in the Allegany Methodist Church she married James F. Hitchcock who survives.

Glenda was a graduate of Cuba Central School, she then went on to Arnot Ogden Memorial Hospital in Elmira where she received her Nurses Diploma and later graduated from Alfred University with a bachelors degree in nursing.

After graduation she went to work as a registered nurse for Olean General Hospital. From there while her husband was in college she worked as an operating nurse at Children's Hospital in Buffalo. In 1959, she returned to Cuba with her husband and began working for Cuba Memorial Hospital. She began her career as a charge nurse, then in 1968 was appointed Head Nurse where she was responsible for the 44 bed Medical Surgical Unit. In 1975 she was promoted to the Education and Staff Development Coordinator responsible training nurses for various capacities and in 1987 she became the Residential Healthcare Facility Director where she was in charge of nursing care, retiring in 1999.

After retiring from Nursing, Glenda worked part time as a clerk for three years at the Browsing Barn, a local gift shop which closed in 2004. She helped with new merchandise, pricing, displaying, and inventory at the gift shop. She also helped deliver meals on wheels.

She enjoyed gardening and her dogs, especially her latest Tobi.

Surviving in addition to her husband are a daughter, Karen Hitchcock of St. Petersburg, Florida; a granddaughter, Kelsey Hitchcock of Cuba; a daughter-in-law, Lynn Hitchcock; a sister, Donna Dann of Gainesville, Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents she was predeceased by a daughter Jaime Hitchcock whom died in infancy; and a son Kelly J. Hitchcock who passed away May 24, 2013.

Friends will be received at the Mark F. Rinker Funeral Home & Memorial Service, Inc., 9 Bull St., Cuba on Saturday, July 19, 2014 from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at which time funeral services will be held. The Rev. Jonathan D. Ward, pastor of North Park Wesleyan Church will officiate.

Burial will be in Cuba Cemetery, Cuba, New York.
