Husband, Father and Grandfather
George H. Cotton, 86, of 12 East Water Street, Friendship, passed away Tuesday, October 25, 2022 at the Hart Comfort House, Wellsville after a brief illness.

Born on March 29, 1936, in Cuba, he was the only son of Samuel and Mertie Williams Cotton. On December 31, 1991, in Friendship, he married the former Jacqueline Lawhead who survives.

George was a graduate of Friendship Central School and Rochester Business Institute. He served in the United States Army from April 18, 1956 until March 29, 1958 and received the Good Conduct Medal for his service.

He was painter and roofing contractor in the area for many years. He also was a salesman for Olean Union Sales prior to his retirement.

He was a 68-year member of the Friendship Fire Department and an American Legion member. His hobbies included hunting, conversing with friends, and in his younger years bowling.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by 2 sons, Bruce T. (Jeannie) Cotton of Avon and Brian C. (Rebecca Dillabaugh) of Rochester; 3 step children, Mike (Crystal) Ives of Utah, Pam Ives of Buffalo and Elizabeth Moyer of Buffalo; several grandchildren and step grandchildren; and several great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his two sons Dean Cotton in 2001 and Dale Cotton in 2012.

Friends will be received at the Mark F. Rinker Funeral Home & Memorial Service, Inc., 9 Bull Street Cuba on Monday, October 31, 2022 from 4-7 P.M. Funeral Services will he held on Tuesday, November 1, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. with the Rev. Kirk Kirch officiating.

Members of the Friendship Fire Department and the Volunteer Firemen’s Association of Allegany County will hold services in the Funeral Home at 7:00 P.M. Monday.

Burial with Military Honors accorded by members of Friendship American Legion Post 1168 will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Friendship, New York.
