George E. Rought, 89, of 2282 State Route 305, Town of Clarksville, passed away Monday, August 12, 2024 at home after a lengthy illness.
Born on May 30, 1935, in Sayre, PA, he was a son of Harry and Nina Woodruff Rought. On July 20, 1954, in Montrose, PA he married the former June A. Crain who predeceased him on December 6, 2019.
George worked for LC Whitford Construction as a heavy equipment operator for over 20 years. He then went to work for the Town of Clarksville Highway Department prior to his retirement.
He was a member of the Local Teamsters Union, the Cuba VFW Post 2721, Cuba American Legion Post 655, and the Shawn M. Clemens Memorial AmVets Post 1 in Cuba.
When he wasn’t working, he enjoyed being outdoors snowmobiling, fishing, maintaining his property, camping, and socializing with his friends, quite often sharing a beverage or two.
He is survived by his children Wilson J. Rought of Port Orchard, Washington, Dianna L. Rought of Portville, Laurie L. (fiancé James Berry) Kelley of Cuba and David (Lisa) Rought of Bradenton, Florida; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by a brother Edmund Rought and a sister Ruth Whitford.
Friends may call at the Mark F. Rinker Funeral Home & Memorial Service, Inc., 9 Bull Street, Cuba, on Friday, August 16, 2024 from 1-3P.M. for a time of visitation and sharing memories.
Burial will be in West Genesee Cemetery, Obi, New York.
