Frances C. Hunt
Busy Farm Wife and Mother,
Grandmother, Great Grandmother

Frances C. Hunt, 101, of 8749 Hunt Rd., Cuba, passed away Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at Highland Park Care Center after a successfully long life.

Born on July 10, 1911, in West Clarksville, New York she was a daughter of Albert F. and Lena M. Wixson Childs. On October 18, 1934, in Friendship, New York she married Edwin L. Hunt and they moved to what has long been known in Cuba as the Hunt Farm. It was there that she and her husband farmed and raised Guernsey cows for over fifty years until her husband passed away on September 22, 1986.

She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Cuba and a 83 plus year member of Cuba Grange #799.

Frances enjoyed baking in her wood-burning kitchen stove and trying new recipes, making big batches of cookies for family and for bake sales, and even won numerous prizes for her famous white yeast bread. In addition to farming and raising her family she especially enjoyed bird watching, sewing and reading. Her grandchildren spent many summer days on the farm where she taught them to love nature, especially birds. Mrs. Hunt had a wealth of knowledge when it came to bluebirds. Hanging bluebird houses was one of her favorite things to do. Even after being housebound family and friends made sure the feeders were tended to for her enjoyment. She spent many hours mending garments and darning socks for her family members as well as making things for the church bazaars. She remained on the farm until 2010.

She is survived by a son, Julian F. (Alice) Hunt of Newfield, NY; two daughters, Carolyn (Richard) Graves of West Clarksville, and Susan (Bruce) Blair of Palmyra, NY; 10 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband she was predeceased by her siblings Albert F. Childs and Mildred LaFever.

Friends will be received at the Mark F. Rinker Funeral Home & Memorial Service, Inc., 9 Bull Street, Cuba, on Saturday, August 25, 2012 from 7-9 and on Sunday, August 26, 2012 from 3-4 at which time funeral services will be held. The Rev. Larry A. Poelma, pastor of the First Baptist Church, will officiate.

Members of Cuba Grange #799 will hold a service in the funeral home on Saturday at 7:00 P.M.

Burial will be in Cuba Cemetery, Cuba, New York.
