Edward W. "Ed" Elling, Sr.
Loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, Loved by all
Edward W. "Ed" Elling Sr., 68, of 7623 Phillips Rd, Friendship, passed away Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at home after a short but courageous battle with cancer.

Born on February 7, 1948, in Cuba New York he was a son of George R. and Marjory Mabey Elling. On July 12, 1975, in Friendship, he married his wife of 41 years the former Edna E. Williams who survives.

Ed was a graduate of Hinsdale Central School Class of 1968. He served in the Untied States Army from June 28, 1971 until June 22, 1973 and received the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and Marksman M16 medals for his service.

He started working at age 13 on farms until he graduated high school. After graduation he work a short time for the Olean Tile Plant before being drafted into the military. After the military he went to work as a truck driver for Dresser Rand in Olean and retired from there after 32 years.

In retirement he along with this wife operated Triple E Processing until becoming ill.

Ed was a past member of the Hinsdale Odd Fellows, the Hinsdale American Legion Norton Chamber Post where he was at one time Sgt. Of Arms, and also was a former member of the Olean Chapter of the Road Runner Motorcycle Club.

He enjoyed hunting, the challenge of tinkering with old motors, working on equipment, running his backhoe and dump truck, and landscaping.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Sergeant First Class Edward (Kathy) Elling Jr. of Evans Mills, NY; four daughters, Marjory (Ross) Ward of Friendship, Monica (Joe) Murphy of Hunt, Misti (Dustin Ward) Cochran of Friendship, and Malibu (Bill) Peelman of Friendship; 16 grandchildren, a brother, Paul (Debbie) Elling of Hinsdale; two sisters, Colleen Amidon of Hinsdale, and Paulette (Randy) Mohr of Olean; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by two brothers George Elling and Kevin Elling.

Friends will be received at the Mark F. Rinker Funeral Home & Memorial Service, Inc., 9 Bull Street, Cuba on Friday, Sept. 2, 2016 from 6-9 P.M. and on Saturday, Sept. 3, 2016 from 10-11 A.M. at which time funeral services will be held.

Full Military Honors accorded by members of the Friendship American Legion Post 1168 will be on Saturday at the funeral home following funeral services.

Burial will be in Hinsdale Cemetery, Maplehurst, New York.

In honor of his granddaughter, Memorial's may be made to the Prader-Willi Alliance, 244 5th Ave., Suite D-110, New York, New York 10001.
