Douglas A. Gross, 83, of 3 Windsor Street, Cuba, passed away Friday, August 4, 2023 at Buffalo General Hospital after a brief illness.
Born on May 18, 1940, in Olean, he was a son of Fred and Hattie Rader Gross. On December 8, 1961, in Alexandria, Virginia, he married the former Judith A. Harris, who predeceased him on August 2, 2021.
He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps serving from 1959-63. He received the Good Conduct Medal and Marksman Rifleman’s Badge for his service.
While living in Alexandria, he had worked as a meat cutter for Giant Food Stores in Washington, DC. In 1970, he returned to Cuba and began working as a pipe fitter for Dresser Rand until he retired.
He was a member of the Maplehurst Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School for a number of years. He was also a member of the Cuba American Legion Post 655.
Doug enjoyed hunting and fishing and the family camping trips with his brothers to the Adirondacks.
Surviving are 2 sons, Douglas A. Gross, Jr. of Cuba and David Gross of Allegany; 2 great grandchildren, Gracie Lynn Williams and Serenity Jane Williams; 3 brothers, Fred Gross of Clarksville, Joe “Pete” Gross of Cuba and Mark “Bones” (Rhonda) Gross of Cuba; 4 sisters, Bonita “Bonnie” Pascucci of Olean, Debra Hemphill of Olean, Cindy Johnston of Olean and Anne Coliccho of California; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife he was predeceased by a grand daughter Alisha Williams on June 1, 2022 and three brothers James, George, and Ronald.
Friends will be received at the Mark F. Rinker Funeral Home & Memorial Service, Inc., 9 Bull Street, Cuba on Thursday, August 10, 2023 from 10:00 A.M. until Noon at which time Funeral Services will be held. The Rev. Terry Jenks, pastor of Maplehurst Baptist Church will officiate.
Burial will be in Hinsdale Cemetery, Maplehurst, New York.
