Clarence J. Newell, 70, of 4231 Haskell Rd., Cuba, passed away Monday, July 18, 2011 at home after a lengthy illness.
Born on April 3, 1941, in Buffalo, New York, he was a son of Sanford and Esther Carpenter Newell. On April 7, 1962, in Cuba New York he married the former Nancy J. Cole his wife of 49 years, who survives.

Mr. Newell was a graduate of Arcade Central School and after graduation served in the United States Marine Corps from July 28, 1960 until July 26, 1963.
Clarence worked as a bartender for many years. He then went to work for Campbell Oil which later became Griffith Oil and eventually retired from Rinker Oil Corporation where he was service manager.
He was very active in the Cuba Lions Club where he had served as past president. He also had played golf with the Cuba Men's Golf League. His best times were making maple syrup and going for truck rides and getting french fries with his granddaughter Kelsie.
In addition to his wife he leaves behind a daughter, Cheryl Hitchcock of Cuba; a granddaughter, Kelsie Hitchcock of Cuba;
a brother, Albert (Chris) Newell of Florida; five sisters, Arlene Lavrey of Georgia, Franny Owens of Wales Center, NY, Marie (Bill) Cox of Arizona,
Virginia (Gerry) Guilbeau of Louisana, and Mary Hargrove of New York; a sister in law, Margery Mountain of Cuba;
a brother in law, Terry (Pamela) Cole of Holcomb, NY; as well as many nieces, nephews and some super friends.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two sisters, Ruby McElheny and Graqce Best.
Friends may call at the Mark F. Rinker Funeral Home & Memorial Service, 9 Bull Street, Cuba, on Friday, July 22, 2011 from 2-4 & 7-9 P.M. where funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. The Rev. John Woodring, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Cuba, will officiate.
