Barbara H. Spateholts, 87, of 24 Mill Street, Cuba, passed away Saturday, December 26, 2015, at Olean General Hospital after a lengthy illness.

Born on March 6, 1928, in Owego, New York she was a daughter of Ray E. and Anna Grover Hurlburt. On Easter Sunday March 25, 1951 in the Whitesville Methodist Church she married her husband of 64 years Laroy "Larry" Spateholts who survives.

Mrs. Spateholts graduated from Whitesville Central School in 1946 and from Alfred University with a degree in Elementary Education in 1951. She later obtained her Master's Degree from St. Bonaventure University in 1971.

After graduating from Alfred University her husband and she moved to Cuba where she began working for Cuba Central School teaching various elementary grades until she retired.

Active in the community she was a member of the Cuba Senior Citizens, Current Topic Club, the Cuba United Methodist Church and its United Methodist Women's Group and a former member of the Cuba Homemakers. She was also a member of the Allegany County Retired Teachers Association and Cuba Retired Teachers Association.

She enjoyed her flower gardens, quilting, reading and the various programs offered through the Cuba Library.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two sons, Bob (Barbara Franano) Spateholts of Prineville, Oregon, and Jim (Mary) Spateholts of Nunda; five grandchildren, four step grandchildren, and fourteen nieces and nephews; and two sisters, Phyllis Rigby of Scio, and Rae Holliday of Atlanta.

She was predeceased by her parents.

Friends will be received at the Mark F. Rinker Funeral Home & Memorial Service, Inc., 9 Bull Street, Cuba, on Saturday, January 2, 2016 from 4-6 P.M. at which time a Memorial Service will be held. The Rev. Burton Smith Jr., will officiate.

Memorials in Barbara's name may be made to the Cuba Library or to the Cuba United Methodist Church.
