Specialist Andrew J. Vogel

Specialist Andrew J. Vogel, of Fort Carson Colorado Springs, and formerly of Allegany, New York, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, May 22, 2021 at home.

Born on June 5, 1994 in Wellsville, he was the second son of David A. Vogel, Jr., and Doris L. Kelley.

Andrew was a graduate of Allegany-Limestone Central Schools Class of 2013.  While in High school, he was a member of the track team and attended the welding program at BOCES.  He then further studied welding at Alfred State University.

  Andrew was a member of the Allegany Fire Department and Saranac Lake Fire Department.  He was a self-taught guitarist and played in several bands during his high school years while he attended Creekside Chapel Youth Group in Allegany.

  He enlisted in the United States Army on February 25, 2019 and was serving as a Calvary Scout at the time of his death.  He was assigned abroad in Kuwait after basic training.  He received the National Defense Service Medal and the Army Service Ribbon for his service.  He will be remembered as an easy-going person that enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his mother, Doris L. Kelley of Olean; his father, David A. Vogel, Jr. of Black Creek; his son, Dennis R. Vogel of Saranac Lake; his fiancé, Norma C. VanBuskirk and her daughter Izabella P. Safriet of Colorado Springs, CO; his brother, David A. (Stephanie R. Pikulski) Vogel, III of Allegany; his sister Kristen E. Hitchcock of Olean; his stepfather, Andrew J. Hitchcock of Olean; his grandparents, Bobbi Jo and Tim A. Sisson of Olean and James C. and Judy A. Hitchcock of Allegany; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents David A. and Linda S. Vogel Sr. and his maternal grandfather Matthew J. Kelley.

The family will receive friends at the Mark F. Rinker Funeral Home & Memorial Service, Inc., 9 Bull Street Cuba on Friday June 11, 2021 from 6-9 P.M. with Military Honors concluding his Celebration of Life at 9:00 P.M.
