Alberta G. Dunbar, 97, formerly of Bolivar, passed away Thursday, June 6, 2024 after a brief illness.

Born on November 8, 1926, in St. Johnsbury, Vermont, she was a daughter of John E. and Gladys Livingston Somers. On February 14, 1943, in West Barnet, Vermont, she married Kenneth Dunbar who predeceased her on August 23, 2004.

She was employed by the Evergreen Dairy of Bolivar prior to owning Kenny’s Friendly Service with her husband, Kenneth. They operated the gas station with the help of their sons from 1965-1978. She also wallpapered, caned chairs and made Christmas wreaths and garland.

Alberta was a member of the Bolivar United Methodist Church, Allegany County Senior Citizens, the exercise class, the Little Genesee Quilting Club, and Heritage Aflame Ladies prayer group.

She will be remembered for her beautiful handmade quilts, delicious fudge, and divinity.

She is survived by 5 children, John (Alice) Dunbar of Richburg, Gail Miller of Waynesboro, PA, Robert (Nancy) Dunbar of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, Norman Dunbar of Waynesboro, PA and Richard (Michele) Dunbar of Bolivar; 12 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, predeceased by siblings Alwilda (Edward) Stowe, Flora (Robert) Shorey, Hezzie (Marion) Somers; a daughter-in-law, Debbie Dunbar and son-in-law, Robert Miller.

Friends will be received at the Mark F. Rinker Funeral Home & Memorial Service, Inc., 554 South Main Street, Bolivar, on Monday, June 10, 2024 from 1-4 P.M. A Funeral Service will begin in the funeral home at 4. The Rev. David Herne will officiate.

Burial will be in Richburg Cemetery, Richburg.
