Beloved Mother, Grandmother, Friend
Adah L. Shaffer, 94, of Gulf Breeze, Florida, and formerly of 17 Spring Street, Cuba, passed away Sunday, April 12, 2015 at Bay Breeze Nursing Home, Gulf Breeze after short illness.

Born on April 13, 1920, in Cuba, New York she was a daughter of Paul and Bernice Vaughan Botens. On June 15, 1940, in the First Baptist Church of Cuba she married Robert L. Shaffer who predeceased her in 1995.

Adah was a graduate of Cuba Central School Class of 1936. She later attended Westbrook Academy where she trained to be a secretary. She owned and operated Adah's Craft Store in Cuba for many years and was regarded as Cuba's original craft lady. She had also been a bookkeeper for the Cuba Cylinder Gas Co.

She was a 50 plus year member of the First Baptist Church of Cuba. She was very active in the church as a member of the Ladies Aide Society serving twice as president, Sunday School Teacher and at one time being Sunday School Superintendent, serving on the board of Christian Education, was Treasurer, at one time was on the Board of Trustees. She also enjoyed working in the rummage rooms and for all of the bazaars.

When her children were young she was a cub scout leader and a brownie and girl scout leader.

Surviving are a son, Randall P. (Linda) Shaffer of Brewton, Alabama; two daughters, Kay L. (Peter) Amberson of Pensacola, Florida, and Diane L. (James) Taylor of Jamestown, NY; her grandchildren, Anthony and Andrew Shaffer, and Nicholas Shaffer, Scott and Jim Amberson, and Sheri Henry and Craig, and Amy Taylor; twelve great grandchildren; two brothers, Chuck Botens of North Tonawanda, and Wayne (Roseanne) Botens of Cuba; one sister, Gail (Pete) Ingalls of Cuba; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband she was predeceased by a son John R. Shaffer; three brothers, Keith Botens, Dean Botens, and Louis Botens; and two sisters Helen Herring and Joyce Kader.

The family will receive friends at the Mark F. Rinker Funeral Home & Memorial Service, Inc., 9 Bull Street, Cuba on Saturday, April 18, 2015 from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. at which time funeral services will be held. The Rev. Larry A. Poelma will officiate.

Burial will be in Cuba Cemetery, Cuba, New York.
